born 1967, is a translator of Polish literature, writer, and university lecturer. He lived in Poland from 1994 to 2011. He is one of Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk’s translators into German. In his own texts, he focuses on Central European themes in a German-Polish-Jewish context. In 2019, his novel Souterrain was published, conveying a broad panorama of Polish experience. He also devotes most of his work as a university lecturer to the phenomenon of the borderland – he teaches Intercultural German Studies at the Collegium Polonicum in Słubice. In 2017, he was awarded the Jabłonowski Prize; in the same year he received the Spiegelungen Prize for poetry.
