born in 1970 in Ivano-Frankivsk, is a Germanist, translator, essayist, publicist, and curator; he lives in Lviv. He studied German and psychology at the University of Lviv and was trained as a group analyst in Altaussee. From German, he has translated Goethe, Kleist, Musil, Roth, Kafka, Rilke, and Hofmannsthal; from Polish, Wittlin, Iwaszkiewicz, KoĊ‚akowski; and from Yiddish, Deborah Vogel, among others. He is a member of the Saxon Academy of Arts, Dresden, Friedrich Gundolf Prize winner for mediation of German culture abroad and has received, among other recognitions, the Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation in 2008. He is a member of both the Ukrainian Center of the International PEN Club and, since 2022, the Deutsche Akademie of Language and Poetry.
