born in 1948, studied philosophy, history, and political science in Tübingen, Paris, and Frankfurt am Main, where he also received his PhD on the relationship between universal and particular socialization. He was an editor at Büchergilde Gutenberg, then publishing director of the Claassen and Gerstenberg publishing houses. In 2008, along with Nicola Stuart, he founded the publishing house Jacoby & Stuart in Berlin.
